Extractions of teeth are fairly common procedures. When the teeh cannot be saved because of the severe gum disease and large cavities, extractions may be necessary to prevent potential severe infections and complications.
Almost all extractions can be done under local anesthesia except some impacted wisdom teeth. Also we can do oral sedation to relieve the anxiety.
After the extractions , you have to bite on a guaze for 20-30 mins. The dentist may prescribe some pain pills and will give you post extraction instructions.
Have soft diet for a few hours after extractions.
Do not use straw to drink water for a few hours as that can dislodge the clot.
Extracted areas should be replaced with artificial tooth/teeth. If the missing teeth are not replaced there may be bone loss, shifting of the teeth etc. Several options are Implants and overdentures , bridges and removable partials or fixed partials or dentures or hybrid dentures.
